I have a couple of friends who are brand spankin' new divers. They are going on a trip to Punta Uva, Costa Rica late Jan/early Feb of 2011. Does anyone have any dive shop/site recommendations or must know advice for them? I can't find a whole lot of useful information online about those areas...

This is very true. It can also depend on the time of year, weather, etc. You could go to the same place twice and have two very different experiences. If you're like my crew, you'll have a good time no matter what...and if the diving happens to be fantastic, that is just an added bonus. :D

If mine were $488, I'd jump on it. You don't want to get bit by the greedy bug. The $350 flight could have been due to a large cancellation within a couple of days or something. I've never seen it that low, so I wouldn't recommend risking the $488 to try to get it for less. My September...
