    Petrel repaired by Rebreathers, USA

I just wanted to give a shout out to Rebreathers, USA in Everett, WA for the fantastic service on my Shearwater Petrel. I took out my dive gear recently for a trip, and my Petrel would not turn on. I opened the battery compartment to find a leaking battery. Perhaps it was my mistake for...

Stowing the long hose when back on the boat

I've done some searches but only found info on hose routing on the body, which I'm familiar with. So I thought I'd ask the question, how do you keep your long hose out of the way once you are back on the boat? I've been sort of just looping and stuffing it into the shoulder harness. I tried...

    Fundies completed (finally!)

So after my previous two posts detailing my Fundies quest, I have another report! We stuck with our plan, which was to (1) practice skills while on the Cayman Aggressor, then (2) take GUE Drysuit after returning to Colorado, and finally (3) finish our Drysuit and Fundies at the same time in...

GUE Fundies Class report... Day 3 and 4 delayed

Ok, so last weekend we were supposed to do Day 3 and 4 of our GUE Fundies class. We went to Aurora Reservoir here in Colorado, hoping the visibility would be sufficient to get decent video and be able to complete the 4 remaining open water dives. However, vis was poor at least partly due to...

GUE Fundies class report, days 1 and 2

GUE Fundies class report, days 1 and 2. My wife and I are taking GUE Fundies with Rob Calkins at Flatirons Scuba in Colorado. Neither of us had experience with a BP/W or long hose, so we were expecting a steep learning curve. Add to that the demands on buoyancy and trim and who knows what would...

    Fundies this weekend!

I finally convinced my wife to take Fundies with me, so we are doing it starting this weekend with Rob Calkins at Flatirons Scuba in Broomfield, Colorado. As someone here once said (I don't remember who to credit), dive as much as you can on your current certification, and when you get bored...

Suunto D9 compass: locking a heading during a dive

I recently purchased a Suunto D9. I am very satisfied with it except for the compass. For those of you out there with a D9, perhaps you can answer a question that I could not find in the manual: Is there a way to lock a bearing during a dive? Before a dive starts, you can put the D9 into...

What thickness is the BodyGlove X2 Dive?

I've got an older Body Glove X2 Dive (purchased in 2001 or 2002), which I thought was a full 3mm . But the legs and arms feel thinner than the chest area. I suppose it could be just worn out, but does anyone know if BG made the X2 Dive in a 3/2? I couldn't find any info on their website.

Trip Report: Cozumel May 2008 Sand Dollar Sports

Sorry it took so long to post this! My wife and I got back from diving in Cozumel May 10-19. Just as some background about our experience as divers: My wife and I are what I would call intermediate divers. She has logged 80 dives, I have logged 84. We have good (but not perfect) buoyancy...

Booked: Roatan at AKR October 18-25

This will be our first trip to Roatan! I just hope its not too rainy. We always go on a trip in October for our anniversary, and I know the Caribbean can be a crap shoot at that time. I read a few trip reports and other posts about AKR before we booked. They seem to get very positive...

To log or not to log... pool dives (noob Q)

Kind of a funny, noob-ish question. I've got 84 dives, and I recently purchased some new equipment. I'm in Colorado, so other than cold crappy reservoir diving, there isn't much around. So I'm going to get in a local pool to go over my new gear, review skills, and try to learn that stupid...

How common is a rust-clogged 1st stage? (noob question)

Hi folks, I'm an intermediate level diver (84 dives), and a noob to this board. I did a few searches but didn't turn up much, so I thought I'd post. I have read a couple accounts (2, to be exact) of people on this board who have experienced a clogged 1st stage during a dive due to rust in a...

Backup gauges for air-integrated computers: a poll

I was curious as to the number of recreational divers out there who have air-integrated computers, and have a backup SPG. I got to thinking about this because my 1st stage is a Titan, which has only 1 HP port, and I just bought a Suunto D9 with a transmitter. What do you think?

    Suunto Stinger downloaded incorrect data

I've got a Suunto Stinger (which I love, but just upgraded to the D9). I downloaded a couple series of dives (using Suunto Dive Manager 2.6), and one of the series downloaded with a Gas Model of "Free". So I can't enter tank data, its locked out. Does anyone know of a way to change this in...
