No for most dives if there not going to be complicated (wall dive or not very deep) but yes if there's going to be any swim through's or the chance that I would need to be able to see what I'am doing to get out of the water

A pony can be used as a redundant air supply or used as just extra gas source that is included in the total planed gas volume, in this case the extra gas source had a different mix then my other gas source so it was left at home. And good thing too the sites entrance conditions would not have...

That's a good point, Candiru are you using a canister light or a pony tank in your current diving plans or in the near future? If you are I would still go with the right side since that is your dominant hand. Good luck

I went with my right side, since my pony tank would go on the left side and could possibly limit pocket access
