oceanic vt 4

I picked up a used VT 4 and can't seem to get the backlight to work. My understanding is that it has an ambient light sensor. So it needs to be dark in order to light up. I'm not sure if it needs to in an active dive also to light up. I'd like to figure out if the light film is broken before a...
