I'm a Fish!
Date: May 7, 2011
Location: Atami
Water temperature: 16-18 degrees C
Visibility: 10-15 meters

Cloudy conditions and a bit of rain in the morning led to some brighter skies in the afternoon...first dive on Chinsen (wreck) led to an encounter with a very curious squid who got very close to us, then the second dive on Bitagane was filled with various smaller fishes and a small school of more skittish squid.

Date: May 21, 2011

Location: Shobuzawa
Water temperature: 15-16 degrees C
Visibility:5-7 meters

Dredging the harbor the previous days did not lead to zero viz, so we were pleasantly surprised to see 5-7 meters. Luckily, the guide rope was not covered with silt/sand. Good conditions for Advanced Open Water training dives.

Date: May 22, 2011
Location: Kumomi
Water temperature: 17-18 degrees C
Visibility: 7-10 meters

Boat dives in Kumomi, lots of suspended particles but visibility good. Cloudy overcast conditions made for flat light but underwater with a torch brightened things up.

Date: May 28, 2011
Location: Osezaki
Water temperature: 17-18 degrees C
Visibility: 5-10 meters

We changed from the East coast of Izu, where many sites were closed due to high waves and surgee to beach dives in Osezaki where there were flat and calm conditions. Ipponmatsu, on the outer bay, had better visibility than Wan-nai (inner bay). Not so many divers there, probably many tours canceled due to Typhoon No. 2 Songda which is predicted to pass over main Honshu on Sunday night.

Fresh Ose Diver's Day is on June 5, Sunday, with an underwater and beach cleanup, photo contest, and other events and activities.
