Anything can break, but I would hope they have redundant support. However, that doesn't stop the shark from just joining you for a swim in the cage at the surface:

The balls on that guy in the cage--just nonchalantly climbs on out, and then in an interview later, he just complimented the crew for being professional.

Can you imagine being him or the crew in a situation like that? You think you're going to die, surface support thinks youre already dead.
