My wife and I have been having free flow issues(freeze ups) with our current regs below 65 feet in Lake Michigan.

What regs have you personally dove with no freeze problems below 85' and colder than 40* for any length of time?

Please no recommendations, only your experience as I do not want to turn this into a which is best.

We'll be buying new regs to correct the problem and would like to know what people are using.

Thanks!

I dive a Poseidon in the Puget Sound about 50 degrees on surface. I have never had and issue. They are made for cold deep dives.

Hard to beat Apeks... Atomic maybe. Toss Zeagle in there, or the new ScubaPro MK17 first stage. Poseidons will perform but I don't like the feel of the second stages (very mechanical).

Apeks first stages are dry sealed diaphragms so they're virtually impossible to freeze.. the second stages are brain-dead simple in design but perform like nobody's business and are very reliable.

Generally speaking any ENVIRONMENTALLY SEALED reg will do in cold water. It's the water entering is what is causing the freeflow - so if you keep it out you should be fine.

I had a DACOR Viper that had the cold water diving kit installed, ie environmentaly sealed and it would regularly freeflow at 120 fow in 36 - 38 degree water. I've had my Poseidon Xstreams down to 150 and they do just fine. Some of my Buddies use Sherwood Magnums and they seem to work as well.

Mares Abyss, Poseidon Jetstream and Apeks DS4/ATX50. No freezing issues with any of those.
