Having studied cell phone bills, telephone bills, legal bills, medical bills, and the like, the following represents an improved way to portray a "professional" image and earn a living.

Sample Billing for 2010:

Course Description: Advanced Wreck Penetration
Minimum number of hours: 30
Fee per hour: $20.00 US
Minimum Number of Dives: 8
Diving Surcharge: $10.00 US per dive
Thermal Fee: Additional $1.00 US per degree of water temperature below 84°F
Hyperbaric Fee: Additional $1.00 US per foot of depth
Doppler Fee: Additional $10.00 for using Doppler device to verify lack of or existing DCS after every dive
OTU Fee: $1.00 US per each OTU accumulated during the dive
CNS% Fee: $1.00 US per foot for every 1% CNS clock accumulation
Elevation Fee: $1.00 US per every foot above sea level
Overhead Fee: $1.00 US per each foot of overhead environment or for each mandatory decompression stop
Decompression Fee: $1.00 US per each minute of decompression
Table Fee: $10.00 US for each decompression table or model used
Bottle Fee: $1.00 US per cubic foot for each SCUBA tank carried
Gas Fee: $1.00 US for every cubic foot of gas used
Oxygen Fee: $1.00 US for each O2 % above 21% per bottle
Helium Fee: $2.00 US for every cubic foot of He used
Environmental Fee: $5.00 US for each cubic foot of He wasted due to open circuit diving
END Fee: $10.00 per foot of depth beyond 80 feet Equivalent Nitrogen Depth
Scooter Fee: $1.00 US per minute of runtime
Equipment Surcharge: $25.00 US per course
Hydrodynamic Fuel Fee: $1.00 US per calorie required beyond 2,000 calories per day
Hydration Fee: 1.00 US for every ounce of water consumed above 16 fluid ounces
Marine Risk Surcharge: $10.00 US per course for risking life and limb by entering water
Dangerous Species Fee: $100.00 US for each dangerous species of shark sighted per dive
Hazardous Environment Surcharge: $50.00 US per course for diving in the vicinity of a cave, shipwreck, reef, boat traffic, surge, tidal change or other divers
Telephone Consultation Fee: $10.00 US per minute for every phone call in which instructor must answer diving related questions, track you down for what you owe, or schedule/reschedule a class
Text Message Fee:$10.00 US per letter that instructor must waste time by answering text messages related to diving
Email Fee: $25.00 for each diving related email instructor must answer
Email Lettering Fee: $10.00 per each letter in the body of the email instructor must read
Email Return Lettering Fee: $1.00 US per each letter instructor must type in return to an email inquiring about diving related topics
Paperwork Processing Fee: $25.00 US
Photo Upload Fee: $10.00 US
Travel Fee: .50 US per mile instructor must travel from his/her front door to teach a class or lead a trip
Seasickness Fee: $20.00 US per foot of wave height and .10 US per wave
Battery Surcharge: $25.00 US for having to recharge lead acid, NiMH, or other batteries in the evening
SCUBA Idiot Fee: $50.00 US per day for every idiot diver encountered other than the student
Speargun Fee: $50.00 US per day per speargun for diving in proximity to spearguns
DIR Fee: $1.00 per incident every time the word "DIR" is uttered during a class
Tank Filling Surcharge: $10.00 per minute that instructor must risk his/her life in a fill shed filling or observing SCUBA tanks being filled
HP Fee: $10.00 per course for diving HP tanks
Significant Other Surcharge: $20.00 for each minute instructor must listen to his/her significant other gripe that he/she is teaching diving and not home
**Other Miscellaneous Fees may be included
