I think it is 15 not 14 But why bother? Better to pick up an AOW card or rescue or whatever. Keep that first card. 20 years from now it will be cool to still have it. Even cooler if it says "junoir" on it.

with SSI its 15 to go from Jr. diver to regular diver - ow

My 13 year old is Nitrox certified.

Since she is limited to 60 feet there is not much in the way of issues. She does not really dive Nitrox (maybe 5 or 6 dives) but she made an 88 on the exam and while in Bonaire she was able to spot a problem with the on site analyzer and bring it to the staff's attention on her own (at Buddy's)

I feel comfortable with her knowledge on Nitrox but still would not let her dive it with out watching over her shoulder.

Side note - the class really helped with her 8 grade science class - can't think of a better practical application of the theory that the teachers attempt to discuss in class.

Great side note DeputyDan! My stepson was OW certified at 14 and now at 17 he is all the way up to his PADI Rescue cert (including nitrox). The kid has more dives than I do and he can't wait to turn 18 and start his Divemaster.

Practical learning is so valuable....

Happy Diving leach!
