Scubapro is usually good about cross compatibility across years for a given model but when the 620 came out I wondered what the changed other than the titanium barrel, this is a new model that has very subtle size variations vs the s600, they do look very similar

The 620 does measure slightly smaller across the face

About 1mm but the cover is shaped slightly different

The 620 cover is a little thicker and has the shapes that flow from the cover to the body

The threads differ very slightly so the cover can’t interchange

The diaphragms do look interchangeable so that and the same poppet seat orifice should keep the old 600 going for years to come

The big change is the square on the air barrel, otherwise people (like me) would be swapping Ti barrels in place of the plastic, here is the old style the square is square to the case...

The 620 is turned 45°, very clever.

How do they compare in breathing?

Pretty close, I can tune the old 600 pretty well, the 620 is not as responsive to tuning but I really can’t say one is better, yet.

The air barrel is it made out of plastic or titanium? I think the early S600t’s had a plastic air barrel?

The barrel is Ti.

It has an easily droppable little pin like HOG and Aqualung to hold the adjustment knob in place.
The microadjust in the knob is extremely close tolerance, and needs to be well lubed, despite half being polymer, or it can lock in place with salt crystals. I loosened this one by soaking in ice water for 30 min. Otherwise, you'll strip the tiny plastic slotted screw in the knob.

If I remember correctly the plastic - friction reduction sleeve is also new addition. I do not remember it on my metal barrelled S600. I do notice it provides a smoother response on S620!and G260 compared to the others like G250V

What is the role of this oring on s6x0? is it just a spacer/preloader? It does not look like it seals anything

It helps seal the threads of the barrel when you screw down the splined nut. There's a second one on the other side of that nut between the splined nut and the hose fitting. Just keeps verdigris down a bit. You're right - no seal for the reg itself.

Got you ! Thanks !

Oops missed this thread... I must say I love what Scubapro did with the S620ti (I wish parts were backwards compatible, but won't complain).

The full length barrell like the G250 had is something I missed on my Atomics and the S600. The adjuster knob being held with a pin like on an Apeks (a nice revenge after everyone copied Scubapro) is perfect. The O-ring on the adjuster is placed on the outside part, so sand and silt can't get into the threads like on the G250, Apeks and clones (unless sand enters the reg through the mouthpiece).

When this reg came out, Scubapro released a disassembly video. How unusual in the dive industry. I think they wanted to show that they returned to a brilliant, simple design.

That red S600 looks gorgeous though!
