I suppose a combination of the Southwest-effect and virus scare. Last year I grumbled about paying $642 roundtrip from Lubbock. Now I could do it for $333 if I were extremely flexible. I'm already booked at $424 after paying a little more than Basic to avoid those limitations. I suppose we'll see the Virus Scare effect with any air travel for a while. My daughter is the principal at a small private school and had a trip planned for spring break to Italy, but that's canceled. Now looking at Disneyworld.

Those flights from DFW are listed at $640.
Yeah, cheaper to drive to Lubbock and fly, huh? My original Instructor used to drive from Plainview to DFW to take charter planes to Cozumel, but I wouldn't. Driving to Lubbock or Amarillo is far enough for me.

You could fly DFW to Coz for $330 RT, but you wouldn't like it. You'd want to check SWA.

As this virus keeps spreading, I sense Disney will get VERY cheap as well - may even start throwing in the free dining plans for everyone in additional to deeply discounted packages. No one will want to be in crowded theme parks just as they won't want to be confined in airplanes. The market is predicting this - Take a look at the stock charts for FUN and SIX that past few weeks. The masses can really get freaked out over these bugs and, yet, tornadoes in Nashville killed more people last night than the virus has so far in the USA.

United just announced that any airfare booked in March could be changed later without fees.

Last week a 'plague' ship arrived in Cozumel after being refused entry into Jamaica and Cayman. One person had the flu and was treated but due to the hysteria, contrary to WHO protocols, both countries refused to allow it to come into port. The local officials in Cozumel were also freaking out and once finally docked at Puerto Langosta in Cozumel they refusing to allow the passengers off. ALMO the president of Mexico, who I had previously been skeptical of, stepped up to the plate and consulted the medical professionals and called bullsh!t. There was still a day’s delay but at least the passengers were finally allowed off on Sunday before returning to the third world port of Miami.
At this point a cruise may very turn into a public health hostage drama

I think there are some who have already felt that way.

The operative phrase being "so far".

True but I'm not about to start emptying store shelves of toilet paper, bleach, hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, canned food and bottled water. I never understood why one idiot of a CDC official advised people to stockpile 2 weeks of bottled water. As if this virus is going to destroy municipal infrastructure. This isn't Hurricane Katrina closing in. I assure you more people have been killed in car crashes driving to stores to load up on this stuff (or have caught the common flu touching the shopping carts in these stores) than have been killed or infected by this corona virus. People have watched far too many pandemic movies and pay far too much attention to our sensationalizing media. The media's #1 goal these days is ratings, not delivering factual news and information. As they say, "If it bleeds it leads". Remember Ebola? Remember Zika? I remember the media hyped panic over those potential threats that never amounted to anything. As always, time will tell but the odds are this is no different and despite some reports that it is more deadly than the flu, there are other infectious disease specialists that place the mortality rate at 0.2%-0.3% citing that perhaps 80% of those infected show no symptoms or symptoms so minor that they do not seek medical attention to be identified as having it in the first place. We are exposed to infectious bacteria and viruses every single day yet we do not get sick week after week after week because 99% of the time our immune systems attack and kill the invading bacteria or virus before it has a change to reproduce to a level that results in symptoms. Heck, we have all had cancer many, many times but our immune system can recognize cancerous cells that aren't behaving as they should and kills them as well before they have a chance to reproduce and spread.
