We were there in October and saw two, what I believe to be, Mexican Air Force P51 Mustangs flying over.

Those were more modern (ITALIAN OR SWISS) single turbo prop aircraft.

I've arrived only to learn the event is moved to Mexico City. Guess I packed about 35 pounds of camera gear that will sit unused.
Did what you saw look like this?

IF they did then yes, Pilatus

I'd love to be there for the airshow. Used to have it in March at the airport south of town? I know US Champion aerobatic pilot Patty Wagstaff has been down for the show before.

Single engine Mexican Mexican AF planes I've seen (No P-51's. Although I bet they'd love to have a few:cool2:):
Most common single engine planes with a canopy in the Mexican AF:
If they are green Camo scheme they are PC-7 (they have 65 of these)
Pilatus PC-7 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If they are Grey Camo sceme they are the new T-6 (only have 6)

I was just in Santa Lucia, Mexico last week doing some propeller work on their CN-295 aircraft (no diving there:()

This is the airshow I remember from years ago, south of town:
