Merry and I have been avoiding the ocean due to high surf and reports of bad visibility. Lately, the only diving we've done has been under our boat in the marina. Tired of being shut-ins, we decided to make a quick trip to Redondo Artificial Reef this morning. We haven't been there for a couple of years but it's close and we knew we were low on gas. We didn't know how low until we ran out right in front of the fuel dock. After pumping a few gallons in the tanks we headed out.

According to the swell models, it was supposed to be less than two feet, but the swells were actually three to four feet. Visibility was a dark twelve feet. Merry saw a Mola Mola while I found a toilet. She had a better dive. We made it home unscathed but it looks like the ocean won't see us any time soon. Merry is already planning her next dock dive.

My recent 12 ft viz dives don't look as good as yours!

Last Saturday at Monterey we had super calm condition but 1 dive because

I call it a Shultz dive, my buddy referred to it as the worst night dive ever! (8 am) so much stuff in the water it was the under water version of those flying spider webs, light made it worse.

Saw a small, dead mola mola being eaten by crabs at Vets on night of 4/14.

You're right about diving conditions this year... pretty much suck... and still sucking.

Agreed. I did a shore dive at Woods cove in Laguna on Sunday and entry/exit were "sporty" to say the least and the vis was 10' with a lot of surge. Some friends dove the UB88 a month ago and said vis was 10' and basically a night dive. So, even at depth, the vis is just horrible.

My shortest UB88 dive was the worst visibility I have ever seen. I reached out and touched the side of the wreck but still couldn't see it. It was pitch black at 10:00 in the morning. Fortunately, I was still holding on to my anchor chain, so I l made a hasty ascent.
