After our callout and quick dive on Monday night it has been quiet. Stayed quiet for a whole 15 hours then the flies hit the Westinghouse again.
A family from Priest River, which is to the north of us, comes down to Hauser Lake to go swimming. Why, I dont have a clue. Their water is much better than Hauser Lake and they passed up a lot of very nice water to get here. There are some monster fish in that small lake that if you come nose to nose with will have flash backs of Jaws. There are Muskies over 30 pounds in there.
A large group of family members(20-30) are having some kind of reunion when a 24-year old male started having trouble in the water and his 19-year old brother went in to assist him. Now both are in trouble so another family member goes in and gets the 19-year old as the 24year old disappears in around 8 feet of water. It took several minutes of CPR to bring the 19-year old back to the land of the living.
Our newest team member lives within a mile of the accident scene. He is just on the recovery side of the team and not ready for rescue yet. But he preformed like I expected he would. After assisting with the recovery of the 24-year old he started CPR until medical arrived and took over. Unfortunately the 24-year old died at the hospital. To our surprise no alcohol or drugs were involved.
People just dont realize how dangerous it is mixing 95df+ air with 65df water temps. That shock factor is a strong one.
Look at the big bright white point at the top of the screen. The accident happened just to the right of the very tip of the point. We do our ice training in that bay every year. This lake is only 550 acres, around 45' deep at the very deepest point and the vis always sucks to say the least.

We get back to patrolling but it didnt take long for another dive page to go out. A two-boat accident on Coeur dAlene Lake with serious injuries and one boat on the bottom. Everyone is accounted for so we dont have to dive. We dont need the boat for evidence so the tow company can hire a diver, as we dont interfere with commercial enterprise.

Then as we are clearing this call we get another page out for a PWC accident with one operator missing. He turned up on the outboard side of the craft out of sight of witnesses. He was just relaxing in the water with a seriously dislocated shoulder.
The PWC accident happened just off the southwest corner of the marina.

So in 24 hours we have been paged out four times and used twice. Summers are just so much fun, NOT.
