Animal, Vegetable or Mineral

Hi All,

We took this shot into a crevice to test the flash on one of the cameras. The little ball in the foreground looks to me like it might be some kind of animal camouflaged with sand (the black spot looks like an eye). What do you think? Is this a rock or a creature and if creature what is it?
