Some people think that is is more dangerous than it statistically is. Getting the right mindset between bravado and anxiety is best, i feel.
complacency may be the biggest danger of all. After 100s of uneventful dives some people become lax. I believe that statistically most accidents occur at either end of the number of dives spectrum.
