My niece, 9 turning 10, loved snorkeling in Cayman Islands this winter. She wants to go again for her birthday.

Is there anything for a daytrip drive or overnight in NY or NJ? We're just north of the city.

Anyone know of anything?

Don't know how far it would be from you, but I spent a month in Brattleboro, Vt. I snorkeled the West River every day and it was a blast. There are deeper pools between the riffles and that's where you go. Water was extremely clear in the pools with not much current. I saw schools of tiny fish, smalmouth bass, schools of rock bass. Water at the top of the pool is nice. Below 8 feet or so and it turns into liquid ice, even in late July & August (when I was there). The river is spring fed in places. Good snorkeling starts under and above the bridge just north of the Brattleboro Retreat.

The first place that comes to mind for an overnight trip would be Montauk, lots of places to snorkel and lots of things for the others on the trip to do that are not going to snorkel.
