What do you do to compensate?

I found the suunto sk7 compass to be very readable with large numbers and very large viewing windows.

I also opted for the perscription lenses in my mask.

Any other tips or tricks to share?

I wear my contacts while diving.

That must be a pain when you are clearing your mask. I bet it gives you a clearer perspective though. My perscription lenses have really bad distortion out to the edge of the lenses. IT would be nice if someone would cmoe up with a better mask design for folks like us.
