Quite annoyingly you need a slim wrench on the 2nd stage side. Most regular wrenches will be too thick. I have a "17 mm" slim wrench which fits perfectly, but officially it seems to be 11/16"

I too use a slim 17mm spanner/wrench.
 
I just repurposed an old set of tappet wrenches.
