It's low parts count and relative simplicity are what makes it special for me.

I remember when I was using a MK25 I needed a longer BC hose with lp side down.
 
@shurite7 might know about the new kit. As for tools, you need a good way to torque the diaphragm clamp. It's not just "metal to metal" like the FSR. Apeks has the advantage there. There is a special socket...
 
@rsingler does the MK19 require any specialised tools? And do you know if there is any difference, other than price, between a service kit labelled MK17/MK19 and a new kit labelled just M19?

i haven’t seen a stand alone Mk19 kit. I’ve only seen the Mk17/Mk19 kits.

Yes, there are two specialty tools needed. I can’t remember what they are or remember the price. I haven’t looked to see if Scubatools has made them or not.
