I was about to buy the Aqualung Rogue BCD, but I read in a review that a diver's weight pocket attachment ( the plastic locking system sewn into the fabric) detached itself during a dive. Upon inspection of the other side, the plastic hook was also damaged and was about to break. Indeed before and after each dive you do need to pull strongly on this in order to release the weight pockets, so it might wear out quickly. Did anybody have this problem?

My daughter dive the Rogue, and in our experience it has been a non factor. She is petite and the sizing along with the overall quality had been great. The location of the weight pockets are great for trim, but if a pocket were to need to be reinserted underwater you might need some help. She's 12 and can pull them out, just takes a little getting used to feeling the latch open. Clicks firmly in place.

I also have disassembled it multiple times for travel and it typically packs better than my BP&W. My wife says it will be her next scuba purchase. FWIW

I have the Rogue. I purchased it late 2020 and have about 100 dives with it so far. It's a mixed bag for me. I love the fit and the general layout of the Rogue. It's very low-profile, very comfy with just minimal foam and support material. It is a nice travel BCD, although I have not traveled with mine yet. I was able to order custom parts from my LDS, in other words the exact size components for each part, and the fit is almost tailored. In the water I really enjoy it, although it is the first BCD I have owned so I am hardly an expert.

It does have issues though, one major and one minor. First I should say, I do not have the standard Rogue weight pockets. I ordered the optional waistband-mounted pockets as I like that location better. I like the fit of the belt itself and I carry either 10 pounds or 16 pounds depending on whether I am wearing a WS.

The major issue is that the waistbelt part itself -- not the weight pocket but the actual belt half, including a pocket, can fall off of the BCD frame. This has happened to me 3-4 times, generally when I am putting the BCD on. The plastic attachment points on my BCD frame are not broken or even worn yet. It seems like with full weights, the belt is simply able to pull in a certain way that allows it to pop off the plastic rivet. When this happens I can pop the waistbelt right back on, but obviously this is a concern. I don't think the waistbelt could ever fall off in the water, as it is snapped together (two halves) and locked in the correct position when diving. I am concerned though that I might lose a waist-belt during in-water BCD manuevers. For example, I have been boat diving when the DM asked for us to hand our BCDs up over the boat side (from the water). During that time the waistbelt is exposed to loss. I try and snap the two halves together before handing over the BCD, but sometimes these are hectic, rolling handoffs.

The minor issue is that the Aqualung weight pockets are incredibly hard to lock into place. I remove mine after every dive session, to rinse and dry, and putting them back in at the next session is difficult. I have to do it before putting the BCD on and it takes multiple tries usually. This is also a concern on boat dives, as I often get on with my weights separate, and then the DM wants to snap in the weights. I always double-check but so far have not had a problem. Obviously if these are not snapped in fully, they will fall out in the water.

In general I love my Rogue so I hate having to write these negative comments. I like mine so much that I am considering having a commercial sewer make a permanent bond between the waistbelt halves and the BCD frame. The truth is that most users, after snapping together their Rogue, will never need to remove those parts.

I did bring the major issue to the attention of Aqualung. They advised me to have my LDS take a look at it, which they did. They did not find any issues with the BCD -- it is really in brand-new condition. I then shared that info with Aqualung, and they said I would hear from a specialist, however that was almost a month ago and I have not heard anything.

I was diving the Outlaw (predecessor to the Rogue) and loved it, now my wife dives it and she loves it too. I think it trims out and dives extremely well and is very comfortable on the surface and below. The pocket and waist band attachment is the same mechanism (in fact, they're interchangeable between the models), and I've never had an issue with the "receiver plate" which is sewn onto the back assembly, nor have I had any issues with the tabs....

Regarding the review you read, I suppose similar things can happen to 1 in XXXX scenarios with just about any BCD or piece of gear..... Just my 2 bar...

Thank you.

I gave the Outlaw a very good try and ended up abandoning it. Three years later, it still hangs in my scuba room. I should sell it, but I might feel guilty. Aqualung Outlaw For some, very limited circumstances, warm water, light wetsuit, little weight, it might work out OK. It's not very flexible. My requirements are broader.

i love my outlaw but i have lost a couple of weight pockets and they arnt cheap so i just strap them to the tank all is good for summer trips easy travel

Depending on how you lost those pockets that is not a very good endorsement!

I'm amazed at how many weight pockets my partners and I have found when diving.
