I know they aren't allowed in the Red Sea when diving in Israel or Egypt. Anyone know about Jordan?

I didn’t have any problems with carrying a knife in Aqaba.

I didn't see any knives when I was in Aqaba in September but no one warned me at the dive center not to wear one.

Sorry to take this off on a tangent, I did have trouble with my regulators in Amman. The security folks do not like regulators (or spark plugs) in carry on and will insist you leave the security area and check your regulators (or spark plugs). And then Royal Jordanian lost my regulators and a fellow passenger's spark plugs. They were found the next day and returned to me. When I told the people at the dive center, they were not surprised and told me that many people were not allowed to carry their regulators on the plane.

Thanks for the heads up! Thankfully I'm entering at a border crossing and I imagine they see dive gear all the time.

Jordan is a bit panicky with everything that could make you cross the borders underwater. I'd pack all that stuff in check luggage. where are you landing?

Yes, night swimming is illegal and night diving is only allowed if you have Jordanian Navy personnel on board the boat you’re on. The last dive site before Saudi Arabia is restricted, only one dive shop is allowed to go there after getting permission and we were still inspected by the navy when we went there. It’s also a navy base and we saw navy divers back rolling off a rhib when we were there.
