If you can reach it Hin Daeng and Hin Muang from Koh Lanta, along with Koh Haa. Year round Hinb Daeng and Hin Muang are the best sites for big stuff

Then from Krabi, Phi Phi and Phuket Koh Bida Nok and Koh Bida Nai, along with Shark Point, King Cruiser and Anemone Reef. From Phi Phi also Phi Phi Shark Point (Hin Bida). Sometimes blacktips at Palang Wall, but if they are not there it is a boring divesite IMO.

When you say "if you can reach it" Do the boats stop going to Hin Daeng and Hin Muang in May? I would really like to dive these sites in particular, is the best chance a dive school on Koh Lanta? Is that the shortest distance to them too?

Thanks for your response!

Yes, Koh Lanta is your best chance and shortest distance.

But to get there the DC needs enough people and the weather has to c-operate. Both can be an issue that time of year.

How unreliable is the weather this time of year ( June ) for diving around Phucket/ Ko Phi Phi? Are there still good sites available?

June, July, and August aren't terribly wet (at least compared to May, September, and October), but there can be wind. Dive site selection will depend mainly on wind conditions. When the wind kicks up big swells, certain dive sites that lack shelter on the surface, like Anemone Reef and Shark Point, may not be appropriate, mainly because it becomes difficult to re-board the boat after the dive. But this is the exception rather than the rule. The tour leaders and the boat captains make those calls and select dive sites that will work for whatever the conditions are for the day. Very, very rarely is diving suspended completely.

In general the weather in June is ok. 2012 was not so good a year, with on 2 days no diving possible and on 3 days only diving at Racha Yai possible. See here an overview of June weather the last years.
