I just received my new dive mag, and while I was flipping through the pages I came across one of those diving incident articles:huh: . It was told by a diver who was on a charter and witnessed a diver descending with an extra tank, no 1st/2nd stages or extra BC . The writer said that he knew the diver to be an experienced diver so he figured that it was weird but there was an explanation.
Well, the diver with the extra AL80 had a very leaky Octo. Leaky enough to cause him to run low on air 15 min. into the previous dive and then end the dive. So he decides to take an extra tank and a bottle of spare air with him on his next dive:11: . Nobody stops him...
When his first tank runs low he switches to the Spare Air and then attempts to disconnect his Reg and BC and reattach it to his "backup" AL80! Sitting on the sand at 70 ft. He runs out of Spare Air with his Reg and BC disconnected from both tanks. NO AIR:shakehead
The lucky fellow was saved by a DM who decided to find out why he was sitting on the bottom with all his gear off.
Has anyone else read this? It cannot be true... I hope it's not!
