Perhaps some Brits could enlighten us about the Bar to Psi conversion.
In addition I was on a thread recently and the poster used the term "surface cover" I found that to be an interesting term for support above the water. Anyone else have a new term for other aspects of diving??

1 BAR is very close to 1 ATA. It's 14.50377psi.

Tanks are typically filled to 200 BAR which is 2901psi (rounded).

The nice thing about metric is that it's easy to know the volume of gas you have at any time. Metric tanks are measured by the liter volume of water that they will hold. Multiply that by the BAR and you get the liter volume of air.
Examples:
120BAR in a 10lt tank is 1200lts of air.
150BAR in a 12lt tank is 1800lts of air.
90BAR in a 14lt tank is 1310lts of air.

I believe an AL80 is close to an 11ltr tank.

Also with bar it is easy to calculate pressure at depth.

Sea level = 1 bar

Add 1 bar for each 10 metres of water so:

10 metres = 2 bar
20 metres = 3 bar

This makes calculation of max depths for Nitrox very easy i.e for 32% Nitrox

1.4 bar PPO2 divided by 0.32 = 4.375 bar absolute pressure

4.375 - 1 (for surface pressure) = 3.375

3.375 bar times 10 (10 metres to each bar) = 33.75 metres max depth

Ah but now I gotta think meters tooo!!! LOL You guys are trickin me into metrics arent you. Well didnt work in the 60's and Im an old dog.

Yep dive in bar and metres but still drink pints and measure distance in miles (have to buy fuel in litres but still talk about miles per gallon when it comes to fuel economy)

Ah well, best not to rush into these things

That's funny... I dive in psi and feet, but buy milk (here) in liter cartons and measure distance in kilometers... our U.S.-spec VW speedometers have MPH as the big numbers, and km/h as the small numbers, but I still only look at the km/h here... though the trip computer on my Passat calculates MPG.
