He does look a bit like that thing from "Khan", but not quite. That would be a Ceti Eel.

(Now how is it I know what a "Ceti Eel is and not this thing?! )

I believe it called a "goot;" as in a Genuine One Of Those.

I've got one of those followed me up before while diving at Catalina. One of the other divers said that it was a "shrimp" of some sort. Doesn't look like a shrimp but more like the Regulan blood worm out of Chekov's ear.

Definitely a crustacean, appears to be an isopod, due to the dorsoventral compression (squished like a pancake)... amphipods are squished laterally. Can't tell you anything else.

It is an Eelgrass Isopod Idotea resecata or Pentidotea resecata

Sorry, alien life form did sound cooler.
