Just returned from a short trip to Bermuda. Stayed at the Grotto Bay Resort. Nice location and facilities. Staff was friendly and helpful. Would definitely consider staying here again. Planned two days diving with Triangle Divers located on site. Upon arriving the first morning of diving it became apparent that there was an issue with the boat. After waiting around for an hour or so, they called the trip. We were all set up on the boat and there was a shallow wreck forty yards away so I asked if I could jump off the back of the boat to get wet and under. They said ok. No boat traffic in this area. Triangle hoped to have the boat issue resolved for our next day of diving. After a short shallow dive, went snorkeling off the beach, lunch and off to explore St. Georges.

The next morning we were informed that the boat was still a no go. A couple of divers and Marcus from Triangle arranged for those interested to go out with the Tuckers Point dive boat which luck would have it was empty. I think the entire group of divers who planned on going out with Triangle made their way over to Tuckers. Most had scooters. Marcus covered our cab fare over.

The Tuckers crew welcomed us and quickly processed us and got under way. Nice crew of three and our group of divers was also very nice. Two divemasters in the water and they broke us up into two dive groups. First dive was on the Zovetta, a wreck of about 490 or so feet, broken up in about 50' of water with large sections of the stern, deck and engine parts visible. The site was a short scenic boat ride away. 49 min bottom time with 56' max depth. Water temp was a balmy 82 and weather sunny with little wind seas calm. We did some swim throughs in the wreck. Nice dive. Some photos attached.

Second dive was five minutes away. The crew provided towels, cold bottled water and cookies and after a short surface interval we dove on a reef the crew called Nasa Reef as it was located just offshore of a Nasa installation. Another nice dive with multiple swim throughs. 57 min bottom time with 46' max depth. Some photos attached.

The next day we rented a 13' Boston Whaler from Blue Water Sports located at GBR. We had a blast. We rented the boat for 2 hours and zipped across the bay, under the causeway, across Castle Harbor to Castle Rock and Nonsuch Island, both uninhabited islands. Anchored in a protected shallow cove off Nonsuch and snorkeled around a small shallow wreck loaded with fish. Next onto Castle Island that has remnants of an old fort. We anchored in the shallows, swam to the island, scaled a limestone cliff, up and over a low wall and found trails and fort ruins to explore. Last we hit a secluded sand beach on a point and explored. Next time I think we will rent for 3 or 4 hours as there was so much to see and do.

All in all we had a great trip. For us we don't really think of Bermuda as a dive trip destination. For us it is a beautiful island, with friendly people that is great to visit with lots to see and do and also has some nice diving. We took the buses and ferries to see the island. Went to St. Georges, the Dockyard and Hamilton.

Our last trip was in 2009 and we hope to head back again in the future. Next trip will be a dive trip, Bonaire in January. All photos taken with the Sealife Micro HD.
