Just wanted to say thank you for all the advice. (Not a spammer. Just busy, and more of a lurker than a poster.) We decided to go to Coz for a week in early December and then are planning on a longer trip this summer to do some cenotes and Banco Chinchorro. For anyone else considering some budget/student traveling, we seriously considered Cabo Pulmo and all the local operators were really responsive/well-priced for November, early December. We also thought about doing Belize and using the water taxis and airbnb to keep the prices down. Found the discussion about the online ratings and whether they were accurate or not to be helpful and ultimately decided based upon the advice of folks who were in Coz recently.
