What is the best compression codex to use with HD footage so I can post it o the web.?

Mike Veitch:
i would suggest mp4

For low-res stuff, I've also been really liking H.264 (say 320x240 ish, and maybe up to DV resolution).

For higher-res (full HD) I will try the mp4 -- the H.264 takes forever to encode at that res and doesn't seem to look so good.

EDIT: When I say low-res I mean taking HD footage but reducing the res for Bandwidth (web) reasons
