Check out the shore area just north of the Marine World Pier and Casa Del Mar hotel. Shore diving lessons are given there and it’s an easy swim north to coral farm area which is very interesting. I’ve snorkeled and dived in this area and believe there aren’t a lot of boats in that area. Check it out!

Just south of Fiesta Americana there is a nice entry along the road and you can snorkel down to just before Tortuga's and there is an easy exit by the road.
Regardless of where you go stay out of the boat lanes. The boats can and will kill you (happened off a yacht near the passenger ferry in town a couple months back) in the south draw an imaginary line from the harbor mouth to each point south with cutoffs to each pier or hotel pickup point.

You mean Tikila's?

Sky Reef is a great place to snorkel.
Just south of playa corona.
Large roped off area for snorkeling.
Swim south to the rope that extends from shore and follow it out to the rope offshore.
The rope is anchored along a mini wall that is about 35 ft deep.
There is also a small roped off area closer to shore between sky reef and playa corona that has a very nice patch of coral.
Food and drinks are very good.
Bathrooms, lockers, showers, rental, etc
No admission charge

That roped off area is to protect a bunch of staghorn coral and to keep snorkelers out. If you go in at Playa Corona they will tell you to stay out of it.

Yes, very nice patch of staghorn.
Roped off so people don't enter.
Might even have a small sign telling people to stay back if I remember correctly.
Signs all over at sky reef telling people to stay off all coral.
