Greetings,
Headed to Captain Dons on Thanksgiving week. First time to Bonaire, and I was wondering if there was any certain travel guides/books that anyone suggests. Really wanting it to be about the local dive sites, but anything to add about the island itself (what to see/do/go/etc.) would be appreciated.

Any thoughts?

Aside from diving, there is not a whole lot more to do or see. You don't need a book, a pamphlet will cover it.
Hire a taxi one day (or half day) for an island tour. Flamingo pond, Salt Pier, slave huts, Town Pier, casino, donkeys. You can kayak in the mangroves too. There, did I miss anything?

watching the Tarpon feed in the lights off Rumrunners is amusing if you get a waterfront table. Or do a night dive near there and they'll come n fast when you light up dinner.

There's a windmill farm somewhere on the east side if that sort of thing interests you.

Also kitesurfing at Lac Bay. Often they're near one of the southern dive sites on the west side also - the food truck follows them afaik.

If you drive past the one way going north (to Kaprata) you then have to continue to Rincon before heading back south. One of the Flamingo sites - I believe it's marked Gotomeer is a little inland off that road. We also saw some in the salt pans near Salt Pier once.

Funny to watch once.

I don't see the attraction but people drive up into Slagbaaai Park also - your BMP tag covers the admission. There's a couple of dive sites there.

Coco Beach Club is new since I was there. Located just south of Bari Reef. Bari makes most peoples must dive list.

Funny (the ironic kind) I think Washington Slagbaai National Park is the most scenic and diverse topside area on the island. Not trying to change your mind. I'm just sayin'... it does have some beautiful scenery.

There's the distillery and Rose's* in Rincon and a dairy goat farm where you can get fresh cheese on the road back from Rincon.

*Rose's is a very casual outdoor restaurant where the beer is ice cold and the goat stew well worth trying.
