CJ Bill:
A quick scout around the net got me a price of RM670 per night for a room which is still a bit much! ETA Pinganchorage do a 4d3n deal (without diving) for RM1149 p/p. Hmmm, still about twice the price of 3d2n on Tenggol Island itself with diving...
Well, that's somewhat better. I can only say in this case that "you (don't) get what you (don't) pay for" and you pay for very, very little at Tenggol Island. If you do end up staying there, make sure to post a little report about it since this question comes up from time to time and there isn't much in the archives about Tenggol options.

CJ Bill:
Post DM, which should be around the 25th of August with any luck, I'm heading down to KL then I've got to make Bali for the 27th/ 28th of September to meet a plane. Basic plan is to head over to Sabah and dive from Semporna for Sipidan (and surrounds) then head over to Sulawesi for the Toegians and Manado/Lempeh/Bunaken. Which, on reflection leaves me another gap to get to Tenggol at the end of August but by that point I'll be travelling on my own and hitting single supplements (and that seems to really bump the price up at the nicer dive spots!) as well as being holiday season (I think).
Yes, that is near Merdeka day. Anyway, that's far enough away that I may come across another option for you. If so, I'll be in touch!

If I'm not mistaken, Tg Jara Resort has been running this one-for-one bonus for a while. That means you book Bumbung or Serambi type room for one night RM805, then you get another night free for the same room. That effectively means you are paying RM403 per room per night. I quote the promo:

Bonus : For every night booked in a Bumbung or Serambi room receive One (1) night FREE. It should be stated clearly at the time of booking that the reservation is for the "1 for 1" offer. (valid from 01 Oct 06 till 31 Mar 07 )

Actually I have stayed at Tg Jara Resort about 3 yrs ago. Under company's corporate rate, I got RM230/night, stayed there for 2 weeks and it was memorable, surely. I called the hotel directly and mention corporate rate. I'm not sure if you can still get that rate today.

Oh sorry, I guess the 1-for-1 bonus only valid after October, which is heading toward monsoon.

Quero, can anyone just drop by and sign up for day-trip diving with Tg Jara resort?

The thing is, I'm currently working and living about 30 minutes away from the resort, so it makes no sense for me to spend overnight anywhere. If they do offer day trip dive for non-resort guest, how much is it?

Tenggol Aqua Resort used to offer day trip dive, now only 3d/2n. In fact I've met the owner at his office in Kuala Dungun a few weeks ago, he said he had to let the day-trip go because of rising fuel cost. They don 't even have 2d/1n now. I actually told him that a lot of people might not like paying for the expensive 3d2n rate he quoted. I for one, prefer day trip diving because my house is very close to Kuala Dungun jetty.

There is no day trip diving at Tenggol that I know of, unfortunately. The watersports guy let me join trips during a short period last year, but the management made it clear that the TJR watersports center is for guests only, so that's not an option.

I stumbled across a site that might be of some help. http://www.etourz.com/tenggol.htm
According to my better half the accomodation is not as bad as some have implied. The Tg Jara is really 5***** so expensive.
Have a look it might give you some other options.

Why don't you try the other resorts in Tenggol. I run a dive operation in Tenggol under Scuba Explorers. But the resort that I'm attach with is really basic, the rooms are bathroom attached. All the rooms do not have air conditioning but clean. The package rate we are for this year is going at Rm 650.00 for 3 days 2 nights. That includes your meals, boat transfer and 5 boat dives. All dive are lead by qualified instructors and Dive masters that know Tenggol local condition. You can also check out my website at http://www.scubaexplorers.com.my.

I still believe Best way to dive around Tenggol is LOB!
