we all had DAN's travel insurance, those policies cover trip interruption for weather and maintenance, but not crew availability.

Gotta love DAN.
For a number of reasons, I buy trip insurance for us.
For the last 6+ trips I've purchased Arch RoamRight Preferred from the SquareMouth site.
Unless I'm terribly mistaken, there are no limitations on the trip delay coverage. If you're delayed, you're delayed
I've long said, that DAN offers less for more.

i booked this flight with a visa infinite-chase saphire reserve that has travel insurance coverage for weather and some crew issues. Visa travel insurance finally after much complaining, paid the last night hotel in Cozumel when American cancelled due to Dallas weather. American canceled the Miami to San Diego flight due to crew issues. gave us a Miami to Philadelphia and Philadelphia to san diego flight the next day. American gave us meals and room 25 miles from Miami airport. I’m trying to try to get the round trip Lyft paid for by visa because of crew issues. Nearly missed Miami to philly flight after traffic wreck on freeway stopped traffic.
after speaking to American rep I learned that flights to and from Texas airports are often cancelled due to weather. Also American air lost , laid off so many crew during Covid that they could not operate all their flights starting in june. They sold flights they did not have crew for. Caused all of the canceled flights from June to now.
You CAN sue an airline for violating their contract of carriage. I sued Spirit air in small claims court , I won, and they paid.
Different flights. Cozumel to Dallas cancelled . Put on Miami flight. Miami to San Diego canceled. Put on Miami to Philadelphia to san diego flight. That worked 48 hrs later

Note I don’t know if insurance covers mechanical like coat sucked in ac or whatever. Seems like crew error also. Weather is the one issue that most don’t cover. I think the better Amex cards and Visa / MC Infinite-ultimate-mega titanium unabtanium cards have similar trip insurance if you buy flight in that card. Also, every comalmy has a executive complaints Dept that will listen. They may not DO anything, like American didn’t.

In case you are not familiar with travel insurance policies (we all had DAN's travel insurance), those policies cover trip interruption for weather and maintenance, but not crew availability.
Policies and coverages vary by companies and by state regulations for the purchaser, and it is difficult to be completely informed, but I've never heard of that one. I checked the details page of their top plan https://media.dan.org/cms/G530_DOC.pdf and cannot find any such exclusion. I searched for the word crew and found it only once for an exclusion: "you or your Traveling Companion operating or learning to operate any aircraft, as pilot or crew;"

in the face of a hurricane headed to Miami.
Traveling thru Florida or Texas in hurricane season certainly includes risks.

Yeah, three airlines have hubs in Dallas, DFW, and Houston, and they do get a lot of weather issue.

Th EU has it right. Your delayed, you get a voucher which is usually much more than the original ticket and you get rebooked.

here in the USA, bend over and grab your ankles. Especially if you’re flying AA.

The news (NBC?) tonight showed AA third now behind Allegiant and Southwest in cancellations. I didn't pay a lot of attention, so those could be flights just in the U.S. but I'm not sure.

I wonder why not?
The only exception is flying in on a non-EU airline.

Air passenger rights

EU does a lot of things right by citizens. Other nations too. But socialism means Venezuela!! Not Canada or Sweden or Switzerland or New Zealand!

i got the good benefits and free tickets with points for signing up for chase saphire reserve visa. But many benefits disappear after first year and the renewal fee is $550. Amex gold almost as good for a few hundred yearly. Amex platinum better for $700. You have to do the math with the points in the particular travel portal and deduce cost. All the points schemes are complicated and different. The points award is most the first year.
I never thought about the flight milage CC game. For me it would be mostly flying to Florida for diving. I took a look around on google and "The best airline miles credit cards of June 2021 - The Points Guy" popped up. 100K starting? So how many trips is this from So Cal... Is this a good deal or look elsewhere?

If you can make Southwest flights work for you and you have a companion, the rapid rewards CC program is the BOMB.

I remember being on the dive boat in Coz with a SW pilot. Someone asked if SW was ever going to Hawaii. He said he doubted it.

and now they go to Hawaii, so thats on my list now. Have to overnight in Diego I think.

We are popping down to visit our niece and some friends around Dallas this month. The wife's companion pass ticket was $11.20 in fees. Cost 86 bucks to get her to MX. And I can buy mine on points if I want.
