"DM Wannabe" -- that's good. I can respect that (I train DMs and assistant instructors).

Went down to our shop's pool today (the day after Christmas) because cabin fever had set in. What I do as a combo cardio/resistance routine is to get in the pool with fins, mask, and weight belt (enough so I'm ten pounds negative) and tread water for half an hour. It's kinder on my knees than running and the net negative weight gives me a good workout. Try holding your hands out of the water for a couple of minutes from time to time, too.

I devised this routine myself, so I can't cite any data on its efficacy. But it feels like a real workout and I can get my heart rate up to 90% of max quite easily, depending on how high I try to stay out of the water.
