Just purchased the 8080 and looking into buying the ikelite outfit of housing and strobe. It looks like a few of you went with the 50 versus the 125 strobe. Curious why?

Also, anyone have a recommendation for where to buy online or other place the cheapest?

Price mostly for me and the 125 is overkill in power for an 8080 lens angle coverage. I would get two 50s over one 125. For me, a better deal is a "bulletproof" Ikelite Ai or 100 at 100watts or two MV 50 strobes at 50watts, just need to add the cord and start shooting!

I have nothing to do with any items on ebay, I do have an Ikelite Ai and several MV and MS strobes.

If I may ask, what are the 8080 cameras going for and where, I am looking for another one.

Dan, I have now taken the C-8080 on a couple of two dive days and had no problem with battery life. I was able to take pictures with the LCD screen on all the time for two dives, each of which lasted more than one hour.

Nick, was just wondering on the power of the batteries.. 2300s? or ??
thanx..

I'm not Nick, but the 8080 uses a proprietary battery pack 7.2v 1500mAh. My battery lasted at least 2 dives with LCD on, camera on the whole time. I did not use the internal flash, however.

Ok, thanx Eric...
I've been using the Ansmann 1600s (mfg do differ) and found them cutting out midway through the 2nd dive.. (Using strobes).
Now using the Powerx 2300, but still make a habit of changing batteries after each dive... I've read that most are now getting 2-3dives on one set, so I was wondering what Nick was using...
1500s?... That'd be pushing it on the second dive for me... learned quickly as the Octopus starts to play and the camera gets funky on me... it's the batteries... we're also dealing with cold water....
thanx for the info and reference point...

f3Nikon,

$510 from 17photo.com. Brand new. Several online and Ebay that are refurbished for less, but I did not want to go down that road. However, they are not making them anymore. So, I am not sure how long you are going to be able to find a new one if this is what you are looking for.

Tony

Thanks.

Thanks.

Same here I buy the cameras "new" so as to get the lastest firmware and updates if any. The strobes are so basic and simple that all my "used" buys were great deals.

Hey Dan

This is just a guess, but remember the 8080 has a higher pixel CCD @ ISO 50, a very slow speed . Great for high res. stills with plenty of light, but too slow for moving pictures. May need to get a video camera for the moving stuff. Wait a minute! I just had an idea, have you ever captured a still shot from a video? Notice that the quality was very poor for stills standards at a very low res., not as good as still digital?

Thats because the CCD in video has to have less pixels and at a larger size in order to record the fast moving picture at low light.

I don't think you can have it both ways.

Al
