Looking for some diving, going to Palm Springs, CA in July and
need a contact out there to set up some dives. Any advice on
spots, boats, shops that (you all) trust would be deeply appreciated. We will be 1 or 2 hours from the blue stuff so would like to have it all ready for when we get there. Thanks in advance. Now you all remember Shark dives are NOT a biggy on my list!

Hi Cherinere!
I was out to Catalina with the Sand Dollar ( http://www.diving.net ) chartered by Wayne & his gang from Scuba Schools of America - Riverside ( http://www.ssa-riverside.com ) earlier this month. I had a great time! I can email you my entire trip report if you like. You can book the Sand Dollar online (I did) but if you have questions & want to talk to someone call the shop. I could be wrong (I am from Washington you know :), but I think that Riverside is on the way to LA/San Pedro.

Cherinere--

You are in for some major league thermal shock! Palm Springs in July can easily have 100+ deg F days--and the Pacific off So. Cal. can be 60 deg F on the same day! The message: bring the appropriate wet suit--not one for the Carib in summer.

Catalina is worth the trip if you are determined to dive So. Cal.: try Catalina Divers, located in Avalon on the island. Their telphone number is(800) 353-0330. Their fax is (310) 510-0695.

And bring some cheap natural gas and electricity when you come--we will probably need it!

Also, send an e-mail to Mario S. Caner of this board--he is in San Diego and may be able to advise, if not DM for you.

Another website you might want to try is http://www.californiadiveboats.com for possible open boats.
I was just diving the oil rigs about 2 weeks ago and the water temp was 54 F but then we went to Catalina and did 2 dives and the temp was a balmy 62F.

You will love it. But as it was mentioned earlier a 7 mil suit is in order.

Enjoy, safe diving!
