I feel like the ball/ball +clamp situation I've been trying to set up on my camera housing is more complex than it needs to be. Is there a reason there doesn't seem to be this type of attachment rated for underwater? https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/prod...lti_Function_Ballhead_with_Cold.html/overview
To me, screwing this right into a light seems much simpler than the standard options, but maybe it's a bad idea? Could rust out or...? Thanks for the input.

If it doesn't say it is stainless then it will most likely rust very badly and very quick. Here's one on Amazon that is aluminum. Not adjustable like the one you show but may work?

Amazon Screw Adapter

Probably because nobody wants to mount their light so close the the camera lens due to backscatter, ball systems allow any number of arm options to make the distance from the light to the lens variable

That's true, not a spot I would use to put a bright video light or strobe but I have seen a small video camera or a small focus light mounted there.

True, I often mount a focus light or GoPro on my cold shoe but neither have a 1/4 thread, seen many people using ys style cold shoe mounts for focus lights. The thing about 1” balls is that it makes your whole system so versatile in terms of configuration options
