This was NOT my intention! I was being sarcasm on Dans remark #70.

Uncle Sam has not contributed any their own PRODUCED vaccine to his neighbour let alone those thousand of miles away.
Canada and Mexico only received the AZ stock which is yet to be approved by FDA.

The pissing contest between UK and EU is a political one instigated by French and German aided by a woman(can't use lady) from Belgium. Main reason why EU was so behind in the vaccinating program. I hope they have solve this stupid and utterly unnecessary behaviour and go on to save their own people and may be the rest of the world.

That woman is the German "president of the EU Commission" and has done a land grab to provide vaccines to all of the EU. She has form for failing in Germany so was pushed to the EU. The Commission was late, backed all the wrong horses and negotiated on price not quality, then had the brass neck to claim it was AstraZenica's fault.

    Today (4/April)...
    The US has vaccinated 165m = 49%.
    The UK has vaccinated 37m = 56%
    The EU27 has vaccinated 79m = 18%

I thought she(Ursula von der Leyen) is from Belgium(place of birth). No wonder she is on the same side with Merkel.
Really feel sorry for Merkel to mess up this crises at the of her political career.

    Boris Johnson’s Vaccine Miracle

Ruined a few but saved at least one political career!!!

If you're referring to the Oxford / AstraZenica vaccine, the main investor was the UK government. Oxford University basically created the vaccine but needed a company to manufacture and distribute it. The UK government pushed this to AZ as it had strong British connections, as opposed to a US based company which would have been blocked from exporting the vaccine from the USA (prescient strategy by the UK gov as it turned out). The UK gov also bought up huge quantities of other vaccines to spread their bets.

The EU had decided to strongly push for the Sanofi vaccine and had ordered lots. Sanofi's a French pharma company. France has a large influence on the EU, so managed to convince everyone that it would be a good investment. When it became clear that the Sanofi vaccine development wasn't going well and would not be released until 2022 at the earliest the EU sprung into panic mode.

The Commission made the land grab for EU vaccine procurement and distribution and unsurprisingly made a mess of it. It was late ordering other vaccines and they also placed great emphasis on price (true accountant style) as opposed to quantity and delivery. Their contracts weren't particularly well drawn up despite all the subsequent noise and bluster (if they were right, the courts would have agreed, but they didn't take it to court as they knew they'd loose). There's been delays with the AZ vaccine, but this hardly matters given the hatchet job being performed by the Commission and French and German governments (which, hardly surprisingly, is backfiring as it's stoking vaccine hesitancy for all vaccines amongst their population).

Anyway, it is Ursula von der Leyen (president of the EU commision) who's to blame along with Macron and Merkel -- both with pending elections. It also didn't help that the EU "health commissioner" is a Cypriot apparatchik with little experience but for working as a psycologist. (EU Commission appointments are political and have to be shared amongst different countries, not based upon skills nor experience)

Germany is having considerable internal political issues with the lack of vaccine rollout progress and is breaking away to procure its own source of vaccines. Apparently Germany is even considering taking the Russian Sputnik V vaccine (which isn't yet certified for use by the European Medicines Agency)

Not only apparently, we are prepping two vaccine manufacturing plants for production already in preparation for CMA. One would be stupid not to use an approved vaccine. One of the plants is fully EMA and FDA approved, has just dedicated one of their production lines to Jannsen to help them out and is in negotiation with AZ to help them fix supply issues. On a side note, AZ has started a clinical trail together with Gamaleya on combining Vaxzevria with Sputnik V as the second dose.

And on a side note, the EU has heavily favored Germany for vaccines:
    600 Mio BioNTech
    405 Mio CureVac

    460 Mio Moderna
    400 Mio AZ
    500 Mio Jannsen

    300 Mio Sanofi
so the claim that they strongly pushed for Sanofi/GSK is not reflected in the orders
