Hi,
we are developing a 3D model of the swim platform located in the Underwater Park (AKA Casino Point) of Avalon / Catalina. We want to insert it into the eDive site of Casino Point.

We need video & pictures of the platform. We have some ... but we need more :D

If you would like to help with this project please PM me.

Will write the names of the contributors on the 3D platform itself ... so the whole world will know about it.

Your chance to get famous

Regards,

I_AM

Sigh, I'm already too famous as it is (modesty? moi?). Oh, wait... I meant infamous.

Even though we usually refer to this structure as the swim platform, Women Divers Hall of Fame charter member Lorraine Sadler tells me that she and diving legend Jon Hardy helped tow it over to the dive park and sink it. It was really a float from the pier. I was in Chicago when it happened so I wasn't on the island.

Keep going on what is already a "cool tool," Alberto.

Hi Dr. Bill,
as you know the only piece of video & picture we have so far of the platform ..... are yours!
Your name will be written in CAPITAL LETTERS on the platform
So you will become even more infamous :D

Have fun on the big island

Alberto... I'm sure I have a lot more video footage of the swim platform. I just don't have any time to put it together since I fly out in the morning. I'll be back the end of November.

Hi Dr. Bill,
we got some video from another friendly diver :blinking: .... I will let you know if we need more.

As you know, right now we are debating if there are 2 or 4 "cylinders" underneath the platform structure. The sonar image says 4 ... but would be much better to know for sure.

Have fun on the big island.

Best Regards,

In our recent great viz weekend I took several shots - top looking straight down, side looking ahead, 3/4 view with a diver, etc. These were shots that had either the entire platform or the entire length of one side of the platform in them

I've been shooting it for years. I can tell you where the Garibaldi nests will be, I can tell you where the chain pile is, I can tell you which side the light bulb tunicates are on, I can tell you where the Octopus is, I can tell you where the Eel is.

Plus I have lots of other shots of it from several angles. If you're interested, contact me at ken@divematrix.com and lets talk.

Hi !
Just wanted to let everyone know that the project is finally completed and the (virtual) swim platform is ready to be visited.

See video here --> YouTube - eDive of Swim Platform at Avalon Underwater Park

Special thanks to Dr. Bill, Dave Bower and Jeff Homestead for having provided videos, pictures and the first version of the 3D model of the swim platform; their names have been placed on a (virtual) memorial plaque on the platform itself for everyone to see.

Best Regards,

Alberto

Gulp... a memorial plaque? Does that mean I'm dead, Alberto?
