Hey Guys,

Just a few pics from Catalina this past weekend. Only did 2 dives because I was an idiot and brought the wrong wetsuit! (3 mil instead of 7mil) Subsequently, I barely took any pictures. Still saw some big fish and a baby octopus that wan't too shy. (one picture which is out of focus he almost came up and gave my camera a hug!!)

Hopefully will have some better pictures next time!

The usual equipment for me... SP-350, Ikelite housing, Ikelite DS-125 strobe.

Love 'em! I'm going to the kelp forest for the first time next week and your pics greatly added to my excitement! Thanks for posting them.

Nice black sea bass, Todd.

We dove the island yesterday and it was 70 degrees all the way down to 80 feet. I roasted in my drysuit - took off the hood for the second and third dives.

Those ARE beautiful photos. I want to drive down from SF at some point and do some dives around Catalina - any suggestions on how to do this? I am a bit miffed about the ferry, etc. etc. etc. Any dive boats that leave from SB to get there?

Again - beautiful photos!!!!

We usually leave from the long beach ferry. drive down early friday morning and come home on the 8:00 monday ferry and home before rush hour. Let me know when you are looking to go, i have a group of people that would probably love to join ya.

I am contemplating driving down (no real plan in mind as to where to go, etc) with my dive gear in the car over labor day. Wondering if it would just be a zoo though.

Those are some great shots. How far from LAX would you have to go to reach a dive shop that will go to Catalina? I travel to LA a couple of times per year on business and it would be great to stay a couple extra times to get some great diving in.

Thanks for sharing.

Very nice photos. I love the front-shot of the giant black seabass... I rarely see any photos of those.

The Catalina boat landings are in LA county, probably 20 minutes from the airport in a cab, or less and a shuttle might be able to take you there. Once on the boat your trip is just over an hour to the island. Getting there from LAX would not be a big deal at all.

Thanks a lot Ted S. I might just have to see if I can find a reason to pull forward the next trip :D . I am sure there are lots of options but any suggestions on the best dive ops to charter with?
