Great shots..Thinking the jawfish were up to something , otherwise usually NOT that close together.

My guess is from hours of observing these guys,, the male is the one half emerged from hole. Generally if you have 2 in same hole, the female is depositing the eggs, perhaps directly to male's mouth. Otherwise they don't share the same space.
