Diving off the islands is amazing, that’s where I got my open water certification done. It’s usually up to the weather or whichever island had the best conditions as to where you’ll go, but anacapa and Santa Cruz are both great! Don’t worry about currents or anything you’ll be completely fine they especially since you’re with a master diver. Just relax do as you’re told and enjoy the views :) I was spooked when I went out there for the first time but as soon as I hit the bottom I got completely hooked.
