Palau
Anyone who have been to Palau should have noticed that nearly everyone who work at the service industries are non native. Substantial of them are from Philippines.
The travelling ban would have no impact on the locals. Uncle Sam take good care of them.

It is dead easy for the Palauan Gov to get around the ban. A common practice used by some countries to deal with travelling ban: do NOT stamp the passport and of course the traveller have to travel via a third country first.

Palau seeks help to counter China 'tourist ban' | The Express Tribune

I love to see what will happen if Uncle Sam resume diplomatic relationship with Republic of China!!!!

When I studied Mandarin in college during the late 80's I remember our professor referred to it in class as Taiwan or Formosa. The student I worked with teaching ESL while still in school was from Taiwan and really didn't like mainland China.

Interesting thread. I really hope, for the sake of ordinary Palauans and their totally amazing underwater environment, that this turns out well. Having been there 10 times, it seemed that the tourist numbers had got kind of too high from a sustainability point of view anyway. This is what the UK newspaper "The Guardian" had to say recently:

'Palau against China!': the tiny island standing up to a giant

So Palau can finally open up the jellyfish lake again :eyebrow:

A couple of notes on the article I read: "Palau stunning beaches"... do they mean the only artificial beach they have, out of the PPR? o_O
Also "Palau will rebrand itself as a luxury destination": geez, with the prices they have, diving and what not, I was sure Palau was already utterly luxurious... :surrender:

The issues at play here are larger than scuba and the marine environment. China’s strategy in Palau is the same as it is in the rest of the Pacific, Africa, and the developing world: over promise, under deliver, and bribe politicians. We are witnessing this in the Marshall Islands (like Palau it is also a Micronesian country and also freely associated with Uncle Sam). The Chinese are promising to open a huge casino on Rongelap—an island that gets less than 100 tourists per year. We witnessed it in Nicaragua when they promised to build a canal a few years ago then closed shop without explanation and without ever breaking ground.
