The convict fish has a highly unusual social organization: its adults seem to not leave the burrows they construct, and share with the juveniles. The juveniles forage for plankton in schools, and regurgitate some of their food into the mouth of the adult. A division of labor between generations, in a fish! Fascinating.

I wrote a blog post about this fish, together with some stills and a video. I didn't have any video lights on my SLR housing when I saw the adult fish, but despite the absence of colors this is some cool natural history.
