Sometime soon I'm going to need a new BC for one of my daughters.

I already have three DSS BCs and would like to continue to use them for ease of parts interchange and because I like them.

Has anyone heard from Tobin? Is he still planning on resuming operations at some future point? Any idea when? If not, is there any chance that he'll end up selling to someone else who will?

Are there any other BP&W makers out there that use the same slot spacing so that the single-tank wings will interchange without the hassle of using a STA?

Call John at Northeast Scuba Supply. I believe he still has stock.

I called and he doesn't have any single tank wings left.

My primary issue with DSS wings is that they are completely sewn shut requiring a return to DSS for bladder replacement....that increases the down time if the bladder ever needs replacing.

With a zipped shut wing shell, should a manufacturer go into long-term limbo/close shop like the current situation with DSS one would be able to simply swap bladders with another manufacturers. I am pretty sure I can cram an Edge-Hog 32lb bladder into my Dive Rite Voyager wing shell if need be and vice-versa. Not so easy to experiment in this way with the DSS wings based on their design.

Tobin stands by his design as being superior but some of us think that the sewn shut design is a poor design choice and the fact that he is no longer available to support his products kind of proves the point.

The cross-haired webbing of Dive Rite's Travel and Voyager wing models should work around any slot spacing concerns you might have and you will not need to use an STA.

The Torus wings are sewn shut. The LCD wings have a zipper to access the bladder.

My theory is DSS did not have the ability to sew a 360 degree zipper. That is the only explanation for his design choice.

Besides Dive Rite, HOG, Oxycheq, DGX, and VDH should also work.

Right, well, I don't have his phone number, and the only interactions I ever had with him were good ones.

Probably best to find an alternative that will be around in the future.

I have the DSS stuff I need, but if I wanted more I'd set up a search on ebay and keep a look out here on SB. The numbers on his website (deepseasupply.com) are 626-799-5078 or 626-799-5074. Tobin does have a facebook page that he updates with mostly political or personal stuff, but every once in a while he has pics of his progress on his manufacturing site. I scrolled back through March and didn't see any useful updates.

Why don’t people take Tobin at his word? He stated in another thread that he was done with it and would not be re opening.
