When it comes to flying my wife and I have learned. In our carry on bag we have tons of snacks, beef jerky, salami, crackers, all kinds of stuff. If they ever say anything my wife just says she's diabetic and they dont give us any problem, oh this work and big theme parks as well.
As far as booze. The TSA says as many 100ml bottles you can fit in a quart bag. Almost any liquor store sells 100ml bottles of everything. After security we will buy a fountain soda, spike it, get on the plane and relax with plenty of food and drinks. Oh if you finish your drink you can usually get the flight attendant to give you ice and a can of soda, I am always discreet with the alcohol. This is especially helpful when we fly out to see the inlaws.
