Spent 5 weeks in Oct-Nov 2022 in Cozumel diving 3 times/week with Ambient Diver.
First, Chuck/Carlos, Nivo and Martin are superb to dive with. The friendly personal service, quality of the boat and flexibility of dive options are the tops and the hallmark of a quality valet scuba diving operator.
The boat is big, dry, stable, fast and newly renovated. Captain Nivo has no real equal in the fleet. Friendly and helpful, yet curious about the divers and excited to see them enjoying themselves. Fresh water rinse down, yummy snacks, selection of cold drinks are all nice touches.
We only dove with Martin as a divemaster, and if you want to dive slow, find micro and macro fauna and be relaxed while safe, his 25+ years on the reef are evident. He pointed seahorses on 6 different dives, a baby nurse shark, dozens of octopus and nudis/slugs galore, in addition to reef sharks, turtles and the normal denizens of the reef.
We dove everywhere open on the reef from Maracaibo to Barracuda. Ambient's willingness and flexibility to go north or south makes weather/wind management easier. Chuck's easy and abundant communications are helpful in planning and managing expectations.
This isn't a cruise ship operation, this is the perfect service for "professional" divers and photographers; 2-6 divers maximum. Additionally, they accommodated our snorkeling friend with a bilingual guide while we dove and she had an amazing time. The fact that Chuck makes Nitrox the default means long bottom times and feeling refreshed after 2-3 dives a day.
I can't speak more highly of the Ambient Dive team. The small, professional, personal valet dive operations are few and far between, but when they do it as well as Ambient did for us, it should be lauded and acknowledged. Thank you for a wonderful trip.
