I use one for my backup reel because it fits in my pocket along with a backup SMB. I prefer to crank on a larger light monkey on assent but given your estimated use of 30 feet it would be fine.
I haven't had the inadvertent line like described above but that's a reality for sure.
Most reals ship with some kind of gate clip attached to the frame or double ender. I put in a small loop of 550 cord so it's not metal on metal and my hand can get a full gloved purchase between the body of the reel and the gate clip.
