I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good dive shop in the Baltimore, MD area? A recent acquaintance of mine recently move there from Colorado and I'm just trying to help out...

Thanks,

Frank,

Two questions come to mind, what are they looking for in a shop and where in Baltimore, it’s a big place. I live in Laurel, South of Baltimore. On the south side for air fills, Nitrox, equipment rentals and basic needs there are Columbia Scuba http://www.columbiascuba.com in Columbia (PADI) and The Scuba Hut http://www.scubahut.com/ in Glenn Bernie (SSI/TDI). I also like Atlantic Edge http://www.atlanticedge.com in Gaithersburg (PADI) as they are a Halcyon and DUI distributor but that’s a bit of a haul from Baltimore.

Sillygrendel lives on the North side of Baltimore and could probably help you out there.

If your friend is looking for dive buddies you should have them check out the Mid-Atlantic Bottom Feeders. While we’re not doing much now, but during the “diving season,” (A.K.A. The time of year you can dive with a wetsuit and not freeze to death) there is usually someone diving somewhere every weekend. Millbrook Quarry opens the first week of April and I suspect this will pick up then.

Some of my experiences with Scuba Hut include staff that
couldn't be bothered to answer questions like, what dry suits do you have and who can I talk to to order one or where is the manual for the camera you're trying to sell. Usually in an empty store, which should tell you something. They're heavy on attitude when they care at all but I ain't seen much else. Keep looking.

I've been happy with Annapolis Scuba and Aquatic Adventures in Alexandria Va. (too far for you). I've heard good things about the shop in Gaithersburg. Good luck!
