Loudoun County, VA- A Maryland man lost his life this morning after he was swept away by moving water while removing debris from the dam at the Goose Creek Reservoir in Ashburn.

The victim, whose name has not been released at this time, was working for a commercial dive company that was contracted to clear debris from the dam area.

The victim was moving into the water and was attached to a safety line when the moving water pulled him over the dam. Co-workers on the scene attempted to free the victim but were unsuccessful.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of the 20500 block of Belmont Ridge Road around 6:45 a.m. on May 6 to assist personnel from Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System for a reported drowning.
